Did the 35 pickup come with a rear bumper? I do not have one, no brackets, nothing. I have seen a lot of restored trucks with them. A lot of projects/unrestored I have seen are usually like mine, just the frame rails. Did they have one and if so where can I find the brackets?

No rear bumper on 35 pickup. Came out in 36. Woops, I made a booboo but corrected it.

Mac's has reproduction brackets and bumpers for all those years, but I've been shopping on Ebay for good used originals. I thnk since I'm using a '37 bed on my '36 I would be better off using '37 bumper brackets. Maybe a "wanted" ad here on the 'Barn will help. |

I do not see 35 ford commercial brackets on macs, only passenger. I just want to run what was factory unless adding a rear bumper is easy and cheap. I would only run an old original bumper to fit in with the rest of the truck.

I just got a new Macs catalog and they list bumpers and brackets for pickups, also known as commercial. ![]() |

No, 35 did not come with a rear bumper. First rear bumper in 36. 35 & 36 bumpers are different as well.

My understanding is that you could have a rear bumper in 35 as sorta like a dealer option. That does not mean I am correct, just what I have been told over the years, and I have like many other people seen no shortage of 35's with a rear bumper. I have also seen them with a chrome windshield frame, banjo, dual horns, smiley front bumper, and the like that are not factory at all, just done by restorers because they liked them and if they are not going to be judged, that's the important thing.
The frame brackets on the rear of the 35 passenger frame the bumper brackets mount to are bolt-on brackets. My 35 pickup project has the brackets on it because I replaced the frame with a rust-free one that was originally a passenger car frame and I haven't bothered to take off the brackets. |

What are the differences between the 35-36 bumper?

The way the ends turn in. 35 sort of straight, 36's turn down and holes in bumper are lower. Different bumper arms. Look in the 35-36 Book.

Beware of repo bumpers and brackets. I had a set that bent badly from a light bump into a post. Luckily I had kept my original 35 set, had them re chromed ($300 each), believe me they don't bend easily.

Factory brackets and bumpers are spring steel. Repos are not.

And what TJ said above is extremely good info. My 32 has original bumpers and brackets. The rear of it was hit while I was parked by a lady backing up. She nailed the drivers rear at a 45 deg angle. I was in the back yard and heard it . She was able to bend my bumper and bracket slightly. Pretty easy fix for me and it saved my original paint rear fender from any damage . I always stick with original !

Just don't add bumper brackets makes it kinda tough to lower the tailgate.

I do know that in 40, the rear bumper for a pickup was an option that most people didn't buy.
The reason I know this is that it is the same bumper bar as the woodie. I looked for 25 years for a good one for my woodie. It is flatter and the center 2 holes are closer to the ends then the "regular" 40 bumper bar that fits both front and back of the other passenger cars. Don't know about earlier pickups, but it wouldn't surprise me if rear bumpers were optional on them as well. |

I think I might leave it the way it is, without one since that was the way it came from the factory.

The 35's definitely did not come with a rear bumper. Note the photo that Don put up in the later thread about 35 pickup tail lights.
