Dear Ford Barn,
I have a 1940 Ford Type 77B (3 place) seat. A person who has a 1936 Ford Coupe needs a seat. Does anyone know if the 40 seat might work in his 36 Coupe? It would help us both if it does work. Thank you, MrPhat40 |

Since you've had 100 lookers w/o an answer, I'll throw in a "Maybe". While looking for a
'36 seat w/ the hinged "flip up" seat back feature, for storage, I was told any coupe seat from '35-40 would fit. To be certain, you need to measure the front and back width of your seat bottom, as they are tapered toward the front. Have your prospective buyer do the same, but across the floor pan at the 'B' pillar, and a second measurement about 26" forward of the 'B' pillar. Ideally, there should be about 2" clearance on each side, from the seat to the door or pillar. (For the time being, I've settled for a nice '35 seat w/o the flip-up feature. The '41-48 sedan seat I had mocked up was a tad wide, just barely fitting inside the doors.) |

Remember the front section of a '35-'36 floor is raised, so the '40 seat tracks would have to be reworked for the seat to sit properly.

Thank you for the input. What I wonder if the mounting point dimensions would be the same? The 40 is 12 inches mount tab ( the slider tabs that mount to the floor brackets) to mount tab (front to rear) and 35 inches side to side? Do you know the a 35-36 would be? Thank you MrPhat40 |

I know that the mounting point dimensions for 37/38 front seats are way different than 39/40.

Picture of a '36 track along with a '40 Tudor track shows the offset mounting for a '35-'36 floor as compared to the '40's flat floor mounting. |

Dear Rich B,
Thank you for the comparison between a 40 seat track and a 36. Really shows the incompatibility. The prospect has also concluded that it will not work so is still searching for a 36 seat. Meanwhile my nice 40 seat is still looking for a new home. Appreciate the rely and even more so the knowledge. MrPhat40 |

How about 35-36 tracks on a 37-40 seat?
