Don't be surprised if you find out that it won't fit a Mercury.

Before I spend a $109 on nos parts let me ask yall this. I might could fix the one I have. We plugged a flasher into and it started smoking out of the column if I'm not mistaken (I wasn't there another man was working on it) the turn signals were working for a couple seconds before it started smoking. Now we aren't getting fire from any of the uhh 7? (Is that right) wires from the column. I was told that the only thing to do is replace or pull it and was hoping switch was reproduced.

I suspect that if the dim. between holes on the Ford switch were known it may be possible to adapt it to the Merc.

How hard is it to pull the horn and steering wheel on these cars without wrecking it? I'd like signlal lights on my Merc but don't dare try removing the wheel without knowing what I am getting into.

Once you have access inside then remove the center nut. Then using a wheel puller and the two 5/16" bolt holes, remove the wheel. The horn ring comes off with the wheel.

It's easy I've done it plenty of times. I'll see if I can't pull the one out of my ford.

Thanks for that image. I will save it for future reference. I might get brave enough to try it one day but for now this Merc is a long ways from being street legal.

So pulled the switch today guy in town says he can try and fix it. I also checked ford switch same part except for ford has a piece that pawl rides on and it has a longer piece sticking up for pawl to attach to. Also I was looking the other day I think a studebaker switch Is the exact same as the Mercury.
