With the help of a very gracious and knowledgeable member here I know have a better sense about this car. First off, it is entirely dent- and rust-free aside from perhaps some minor surface rust here and there in the 'hard-to-reach' places. This is actually unusual for a car in this region. Perhaps it is due in part to the fact that the car has spent the better part of the past two decades in a protected environment. It has been on stands with wheels-off, but garaged since June 2013. Prior to this it was stored a Dealership, both under cover and climate controlled. It is Titled as a 1929. The Block Number dates to October of that year. The Chassis Number has not been examined because I don't disassemble things without good reason. A previous owner's insurance papers show that it was covered in Sep '97. This is NOT my car. I'm putting it up here as a favor to the 'kid' who inherited it, and the price was chosen by me on the basis of making a relatively quick sale without a bunch of haggling. Another Model-A website suggests that this price is roughly $2.5k below the minimum amount of the 'going rate', as based on 'asking prices'. I have spoken with him and he's not completely opposed to moving it at the price I suggested. However, since I'm just a middle-man, suffice it to say that your mileage may vary. Simply put, it is not up to me to decide. That said, were that this WAS my car and I had acquired it in a similar fashion, this is the price I'd offer and with very little wiggle-room. The car has the Optional Sidemount Spares. All evidence suggests that it left the factory that way. It also has the Optional Cowl Lights, though these appear to have been installed far more recently. There is a reinforcement panel which clearly does not date to the car. As well, some of the Door-Cowl bolts are not original. This is easily rectified. As mentioned below, the car was also retrofitted with Turn Signals, which appear to be from a mid-'90s Japanese Motorcycle (They are identical to the '97 Suzuki which is also in my care). These were installed without significant modification to the car (i.e. No Drilling) and can easily be deleted. It has a new Top -- Vendor unknown, as well as new Seat Covers and Door Panels -- also from an unknown source. Regardless, both the Top and Upholstery are free from Tears and Wear. This is NOT a concourse car. Neither is it a 'can curse' car. But it IS one helluva solid and complete octogenarian automobile. Original Post Below This Line ++++++++++++++++++ What I have is a car that has been out of service and stored indoors for roughly 15 years. It has not run in that long and will very soon have that problem solved. The current owner inherited this from his father, who died unexpectedly a couple years back, when the car came into my hands. While some might call this a paint-resto, --and to some extent it is-- it offers a great deal. We have four 'never saw pavement' tires on repainted wheels, plus two age-checked spares on repainted wheels. While the work is ongoing and before its sale, we have: -All new fluids: (Diff, Trans, Engine Oil, Coolant). -All new Ignition Parts: (Cap, Rotor, Points, Plugs). -Rebuilt Tilly Carb with New Filter. -Battery with cut-off Switch. -Re-Con Fuel Tank with new Gauge set and Updated Column Mount. -New repro Aluminum Radiator, incl Hoses & Clamps. -Water Pump (installed 5+ years ago but never run). -WP/Fan Belt. -Tank and Rad installed with new hardware, fittings, Hood Welting, etc. The car is a 2-tone Cream with Black Striping with Burgundy Cloth upholstery. -Air Conditioned! (that's a joke guys!) -Top has been replaced and has never seen rain. To be clear: This is NOT my car, just one under service by me. It will start and drive before it is delivered to a buyer. I am offering it on his behalf so he can afford to pay me to fix the MB SL350 he also inherited. I would offer pictures but currently they will be unbecoming, what with it being wheels-off on jackstands and with the Tank and Radiator out. My professional assessment of the car is that it is well above average. The price above includes repairs but it can also be had as-is. Last edited by Tomy Turbos; 12-24-2015 at 04:01 PM. |
