600 W Tranny Oil at Walmart
I was looking at Wally World's web site for Marvel Mystery Oil and look what I tripped over.
They call it 600W and its the same ISO as the 600W researched on this board by MOBIL at $35 / gallon. I doubt I will find it on WalMart's shelves but they usually ship free for store pickup. They say its not available for free pickup on Long Island, NY though. http://www.walmart.com/ip/MOBIL-Mobi...r-Oil/40892587 Last edited by Bruce Adams; 07-23-2015 at 04:47 AM. Reason: x |

Looks like it is not available for pick up in northern NJ either.

I have been told to use STP, in my transmission. It has never shifted better or been as cool and quiet, since I drained it overnight, and filled it with just straight STP, which is on the shelf at the Big Box stores.

No store will stock it. It's sold through one of their marketplace vendors so it will be shipping only.

Re: 600 W Tranny Oil at Walmart
Correct! STP always has to be mixed with some oil to work properly and should not be used 100%. It is basically just an oil thickener. Years ago, stock car racers have sometimes used a 80:20 STP mix on old beaters but always had at least 20% oil in the crankcase.

Re: 600 W Tranny Oil at Walmart
They say that STP is not a lubricant, but I've never seen that borne out by experience. I've told this story before, but a friend who was scrapping a lot of cars in the seventies tried a little test. How long could an engine with no oil run. This was as informal as you can get, But the engines with STP in the oil ran the longest. If someone has some scrap engines lying around and is willing to sacrifice them, I'd like to hear the results of your test. Please be a little more "Scientific" about it and write the numbers down.

Re: 600 W Tranny Oil at Walmart
Let me issue a disclaimer; I don't own stock in either Studebaker or Worthington or whoever owns STP now!
I have read (Can't cite the article) that STP cannot be removed from metal surfaces by solvents. It must be ground off. So at the very least, if you're putting a car away for long term storage, add some STP to the oils and get everything well coated. Terry |

My old glass tube and steel ball viscosity rig has shown STP Hi-Mileage formulation to be about 4,700 SUS @ 100F. That's roughly iso 680 or thicker oil as the base. |

Re: 600 W Tranny Oil at Walmart
When working @ a Volvo/Nissan dealer, when a new car owner complained of a "slight" differential whine, like @ 61 to 63 MPH, we'd drain the 90W & fill it with 140W & NO MORE COMPLAINT !
