Default Clutch PP adjusting screws

I there any problem with using steel self locking nuts on the adjusting screws to keep from further molesting the screws?

64 views on the above post and no one has an ansewer? I guess air in a grease gun is more important. Did I make everyone mad for some reason?

I just don't think anyone has been there....pressure plates are usually exchanged and rebuilt elsewhere...

But, my opinion is that if I had thought of it I would have used those crimped self locking nuts...I have some too...as it is I used penetrating loctite....but it's only been in there for a day....

i dont see a problem using a locknut.. thats essentially what they are made for to be self locking

They are made elsewhere and exchanged. but don't bet on them being adjusted correctly. Most I have encountered are out of adjustment.

Using aircraft locking nuts sounds like a good idea to me. When I have to readjust them I have to break the staking on each stud and when you try to re-stake it causes miss adjustment. I don't try to do that, I run lock-tight down the threads.

Since some locking nuts use either a dab of a loctite product on the threads or a nylon material in the threads , heat from a clutch may compromise the lock ability. I also believe they are staked because they don't want someone changing the adjustment without there being a sign of it.

Thanks Guys, I am going to use the steel self locking aircraft nuts, I do believe that the elastic nuts could be heat compromised and not be effective, probably also use a bit of lock tite. The aircraft engine steel locking nuts (NAS679 or AN363) are not serrated and are much stronger and have more holding power than the serrated lock nuts. Of course it is not recommended to use any locking nut more than once.

The last rebuilt clutch pressure plate I installed had nylon insert lock nuts, and that made it easy for me to set the fingers to the correct height of 3/4". I think before the nylon ever got hot enough to melt, the clutch would be smoking and shot.
