hi Jim,
disconnect either battery cable from the fully charged battery and take a 2.00 basic test light, put either end on the battery post that the cable was removed from and the other end to the battery cable. if you have a draw it should light. when the draw is repaired the light will go out... common causes are brake lights stuck on or a bad cut out on the generator. if its not a brake lamp issue try removing the wires from the cut out and see if that turns off the test light... |

Just out of curiosity, does it have an alternator or generator on it? . |

Yes, very common problem is the brake light getting stuck on.

If no obvious lights and ignition is off (engine shuts off when key is turned to off) it might be the generator cutout .... take fan belt off and see if generator behaves like a motor. If it does your cutout is stuck closed. (or shorted if electronic) Either way, replace.

Could just be a bad battery.

How much draw are you getting? That might be a clue to the problem. Do you have an accurate ammeter (cheap at places like radio shack) to check? And as Mike said in post #8, could just be a bad battery. Try disconnecting the battery and letting it set for a period of time and see if it goes dead.

I just replaced the battery in my truck for the same reason. Would go dead overnight. One cell was 75% dead. Of course battery shop said only fix was to give them 80 bucks for a new one, which I did
