Keeping it clean
My bride prides herself in a clean home. I pride myself......well not so much. So this subject of clean floors has hit me a couple of times and in a fairly recent post someone mentioned an odorless product that will clean a carpet quite well. I did a search with several variations of wording and still couldn't find it. Anyone know of some type of oil/grease remover that doesn't stink to the high heavens for weeks after use? I'm hoping to find something to get the Model A grime from my travels through the garage out of the off white carper inside our house. Help save my hide, it may be worth something some day.(I believe it may have been a parts cleaning product.

White carpet.............and you don't remove your shoes?
Actually I found some carpet cleaner at the Dollar Store that worked great. The problen is they never got it back in stock. I've tried some others that do a good job, but if you have grease in white carpet, I think you might need a divorse lawyer. |

Re: Keeping it clean
I have found charcoal starter to be very effective for removing grease - It's essentially the same formulation as dry cleaning fluid.
Some of you may remember a parts cleaning solvent marketed by Esso called Varsol. Again, readily available as charcoal starter.

A white carpet? You are fighting a losing battle. Maybe you need a decontamination room before you go into the house from the garage!

Re: Keeping it clean
Not sure how this would work for a large area, but I used lighter fluid to remove asphalt off client carpets.

Re: Keeping it clean
Many years ago there was mentioned in the "Auto Restorer" magazine a product called Holy Cow concentrated cleaner. The author tried it on a car's light colored carpet that was heavily soiled with dark grease. It took the stains out so well, he said his wife stole the stuff. It was made somewhere in the Northwest and retailed there. I (mail) ordered some back then and used it on black stained tan carpet. Took the stain completely out without affecting the original carpet color. Later, like when the economy failed in 2008-09 they went out of business. You could order from ACE Hardware back then.

Re: Keeping it clean
Tell her how nice the house looks but a change would be nice, new carpets that is, and how it would enhance the lovely furniture and really show off her homemaking skills.
Convince her of the warm and welcoming aspects of a earthy natural dark browns, how it would make the house look so much better...and don't forget to let her know that she deserves this new carpet...problem solved.

Re: Keeping it clean
Or you could just buy her a carpet cleaner, that should keep her busy for awhile.

Good lord, my wife would kill me, on the other hand she doesn't need much of a reason.
