Re: 1934 Ford Ute in Kosciusko
That sure looks like 1938 standard sheet metal, and not '34.
Has to be very rare. Sal |

I think you're right Sal. I took the year from the article text without looking too closely at the photo.

Thats the 38 Standard ute thats been getting a lot of attention. The newspaper got it wrong :-)
There was a 38 Standard Roadster for sale (in Australia) last year. I think it got a mention on the Barn somewhere. Lately these old girls have been popping up everywhere. Manuel in Oz |

Any chance of grabbing that relic and brining it back to life?

Hey fellas, I hope that the US readers don't scroll down to the "readers most viewed" section and see that a lady was hit by a 'roo . She was riding her pushie down Adelaide avenue and was taken to hossie by ambulance. See, they do hop down our main streets!!!

Re: 1934 Ford Ute in Kosciusko
For the benefit of our American friends, here is what a 1938 Ford Coupe Ute looked like. Ford Australia also made a 1938 Roadster Ute. These 1938 Ford Roadster Utes are very rare indeed. There were no Deluxe Coupe Utes made in 1938, however, for 1939 and 1940, Ford did offer the Coupe Ute in both Standard and Deluxe models. These were the only two years that Ford offered a choice. For all other years, before and after, all Utes were based on the Standard model.

mm
Do these utes in oz still have the flat heads, or have they been converted to diesel or rice burner engines? I believe I could make room for a 38 standard ute. Bruce

One interesting thing I noticed. In the original picture in this string (link) with the black and white '38 standard Ute in the field, it has a two piece windshield (slightly V'd back), and in the picture from Mercman, the yello '38 standard Ute has a flat one piece windshield ? Sal |

Re: 1934 Ford Ute in Kosciusko
V8coupman is correct. I took these pictures over 30 years ago when this ute had just been repainted, and the windscreen had not been refitted. I won't use the word restored, a back then, people didn't go to the same effort when fixing up these old cars. To answer cmbrucew, yes, this ute still retains the flathead engine. All Australian Fords got the 85 HP engine, as the 60 HP engine was never offered here. The only time people here swapped the flathead out was to add a late OHV to make them into Street Rods. It is a different story in Cuba where these old Fords could have any engine fitted, even a 4 cylinder.

I've got one, albeit a body shell, and it needs a new home as I dont want to see it converted to coca cola cans.

Re: 1934 Ford Ute in Kosciusko
The Ute sitting abandoned at Mt Kosciusko is a 1938 Ford Standard, as per this enlarged picture. The two tone cream and green one was seen at a local swap meet priced around $8000, way too much for a ute in this condition. However, I guess that these days you cannot be too fussy, as they are a dying breed and not many remain. |
