On the round speedo cars you will find it just under the dash rail above the panel. Run your hand under there or look with a mirror. There is also a little mouse-hole notch near the top of the panel for the single steel-wound (armored) connecting wire to the ammeter. There is a little lever to turn it on/off. Don't forget, or you will have a dead battery if parked for days with it on. The oval speedo cars have the light assembly in the panel itself.

Push and twist the instument light housing & your inst light should come on if bulb is good. For the oval speedo.

The light is above the gas gauge , behind the dash rail. Not part of the dash panel that you show in picture. That's if have the round speedo.

I wired mine to come on with the tail lights. The switch is still there in case I want to turn it off.

That Bad Boy gets HOT if left on too long... I think I left my fingerprints on the chrome cover, permanently, when I went to shut it off!! I have since replaced the bulb with a LED.

Carl, that's a great idea. You've got me looking for my spool of 16ga black cotton wire right now.

See the wiring diagram on page 94 of the Brattons catalog and you will see the instrument light and how the wire connects to the ammeter on the mid 30 thru 31 cars with the round speedometer. Brattons catalog is about the best referance that a model A owner can have .

Agreed; that's a GREAT idea (with an LED)! Where'd you hook in to the tail lights?

R /Roger.

Don't know. I was going to look for an LED lamp that would fit.

Oval speedometer, turn cap to turn on , round speedo, flip switch on lamp housing under dash rail.
