Re: Need help with horn button restoration
NG
The only way to really do a thorough job is to take the thing apart. With the switch rod removed from the shaft, below the total switch knob are 4 tabs that must be carefully straightened to remove the chrome ring that secures the horn button. After removing the ring, the button will come out (there is a spring underneath). Then you can refurbish as necessary. Again, be VERY careful when straightening the tabs, cuz they gotta go back Merry Christmas Jim |

Re: Need help with horn button restoration
If that horn button is made of plastic I would consider using very fine wet/dry emory paper and soapy water. It will take some patience and time. Or, perhaps Q-tip and a solvent that doesn't dissolve plastic, like kerosene or gasolene. Try a spot on the backside first as a trial run.

NG Be very careful with those tabs because it looks like the button has been removed once before and rotated 90 degrees. See image for proper orientation of V-8 on switch.

Re: Need help with horn button restoration
Thanks guys
I can get it apart, what I'm really concerned with is removing the old paint and polishing the button to a like new shine with out damaging the part. |

Re: Need help with horn button restoration
I used low odor paint thinner and a Q-tip. Worked slow and not much pressure. I assume these are soy based plastic like the rest of the early Ford plastic. It took a while but all the paint came off.
