After two years of on and off work I got my rebuilt 39 flathead running yesterday. I had never rebuilt a flathead before so I am "out on a limb". I want to thank those on the Ford barn for their help--it is a great source of valuable information. Of course, I still have a lot of work to do.

That's great! Sounds as good as it looks. Enjoy the vibe, glad you didn't fall off that limb. My project has seemed out of reach, I need to climb the tree and build mine. Meanwhile Fordbarn is the main event of my day. Happy Motoring!

boy O boy that sounds great, my 40 sounded identical with open headers, sometimes I regret installing exhaust. What cam are you running, or do the carbs need to be tuned? Mine is stock but rumbled like a wild elephant, until the carbs got tuned. Fouled plugs quickly but sounded great LOL.
congrats to your first flathead build sounds awesome.

It is an L 100 cam. But there is still some tuning to be done. Thanks for the compliment.

Between what fenders is that beautiful engine nestled?

Nothing sounds better than a flathead Ford engine! Some say it is the Siamese exhaust ports that give it its unique sound. Henry would have never guessed 82+ years after conception we would still be writing and talking about it.
