Im replacing my dist to my 59ab motor and found it has a extension button between the dist and cam, is this normal ,or dose it meen something has been updated or changed

My guess is the cam has been changed.

You mention you are using a 39 distributor on a 59AB engine the thing that is probably changed is the front cover. The adapter you mention is a Ford part enabling using the early distributors 37-41 on the later camshaft front.

The 59A cam is shorter thus the spacer
