Default Ford Batteries

I stopped in to our local battery store to buy a new battery for my 1931 Tudor Sedan. I was amazed to find an old Ford Battery on display. Can anyone tell me what year Ford this battery was used in? It measures 7" wide, 10.5" long and 7" tall.

Looks to me like the bottom was cut off.
Sorry can't help you on what years it was used. My guess would be early thirtys.
The 33 battery was/is10 1/2" long X7 !/4" wide X7 11/16" high
34 battery was 101/2 X71/4 X 8
This was taken from the restoration book

It seems to be a so-called Type A battery, which was used originally on '32s and was carried over from the Model A.

It is not cut off at the bottom.

I suspected it was from the Early V8's. It wasn't cut off at the bottom - it was just a shorty, only 7" high. But 10.5" long. Anyone know what the Group number was? It doesn't appear to be a Group 1. An old battery chart would be great for reference.

Was this battery for sale, or just on display? It looks like its new, or a new reproduction. Neat.

Rick, The battery you photographed, is a 2LF battery used by Ford from 1934 thru 1939. Depending on the number and size of plates it carried various part numbers. This basic shell was used on Ford part numbers...40-10655-C,D..78-10655-A,B...and 81A-10655-A,B.

Here is an image of it.

They found it at the dump. I think they'd sell it for $50-60.

You hit it on the head, Don. The battery guy looked it up in his reference books and found it to be a 2LF as well. But he said 1933-1939, pretty close though. Nice piece for display. I almost bought it. But I have enough display stuff in my shop and not enough space for most everything else

You should go back and buy it.
They are very scarce, in that condition and complete.
