Modifacation to Venturi puller
For those who work on Zenith carburetors, most of the venturi pullers will not pull the part of the venturi that gets stuck in the bottom 1/2 of the carb body, because there is not room for the nut on the bottom of the puller discs 3/8" bolt. I tapped the smaller disk part of the puller for 7/16th threads and then drilled out the bolt hole in the other half for a 7/16th bolt to fit through. With this modification after you have removed the 2 jets under the venturi, the disk will just fit in and you can pull the old, normally broke venturi out. Much faster than using heat, there will be some that are so expanded into the throat of the carb that it can not be pulled, in that case heat it up with a torch until it melts, makes a lot of smoke and stink, but gets the job done without ruining the rest of the carb.

Here is a photo of one that "exploded" while I was heating the carb body. Lucky for me it did not hit me ... but I heard it making a "buzzng" noise as it went past my head? Reminded me of some experences in Vietnam! It could have broken a tooth or worse if it hit my eye. The hole left over in the venturi is 1/8 th inch deep and about a 3/8 inch square. Must have been some kind of gas or maybe water trapped inside the casting which expanded when heated. Last edited by Benson; 01-25-2014 at 07:55 PM. |
