'30 Tudor Glass Sizes

I have a 1930 Tudor that I am almost done rebuilding. It is time to order new glass. I want to go with clear laminated safety glass for the windshield, and tempered light gray tint for the rest of the windows.

I have looked at a few vendors (Sanders Reproduction Glass, Classic Flat Glass, Vintage Glass USA) as well as Bratton, Mac’s and Mike’s. What has me concerned is that when I measure the plate glass that I removed from the car the measurements are different from those given by Sanders and Classic Flat Glass. Mac’s, Bratton and Mike’s do not give the sizes for the glass.

For example, my old door glass measures 26 ¾ x 16 ½. Sanders is 28 x 16, and Classic is 28 x 18.

My old quarter glass is 30 5/8 x 16 3/8, Sanders and Classic is 32 x 16.

I have been looking for the exact sizes that all the glass is suppose to be but can’t find an “official” source. I do not have any of the Service Bulletins, and from reading past threads on this subject there seems to be some differences in them also.

Does anyone happen to have all the actual glass sizes so that I can start out with good information?

The service bulletins should be in your library. That said I'm sure some one will post sizes. I'm in St Louis for a funeral or I would.

Mark I will give you the info I have,sevice bulletins show, quarter window30 19/32- 3021/32 x 16 5/16-16 3/8 . Door,26 13/16 x 16 3/8. Model A Miseries and cures it shows 1930 Quarter,30 3/4 x16 1/4, Door 26 7/8 x 16 1/4. If your old glass is still intact I would use these as patterns and have glass shop cut them for you. Local glass shops are alot cheaper than buying mail order the shipping will kill you. P.S. The service bulletin dimensions were from 1928.

if the old glass had a good fit then take them to your local glass shop and have them cut from those. its cheaper and easier

I asked the same question a few months ago for the glass for my '29 Tudor. What I determined was that the dimensions noted on the Ford Service Bulletins varied from the glass I took out of the car. So, what I did was what Mitch//pa said, I found a local glass shop, brought him the glass out of the car and he cut it to the same size. All the glass fit perfectly and it was priced quite reasonable.

Mark it's good to hear you're pursuing tempered safety glass.
Laminated glass throughout an automobile creates a potential deathtrap, it's a practice that was abolished decades ago by auto manufacturers and it's hard to believe that probably 99% of Model A's are running around with it.
Tempered, while super strong, can be shattered into a billion harmless cubes with the tap of an axe or rock...leaving a clear escape. Laminated (windshield glass) has a .030" super tough stretchy vinyl core that will withstand several blows from a crowbar and leave jagged shards in the window surround. It was designed to keep the occupants inside the vehicle....and does a fine job of that.

The sizes listed by your vendors are "block size".
They must get several calls a week from confused buyers.
Block size is the "chargeable" size...that is the actual size rounded up to the nearest even inch to allow for wastage when trimming.
Example 11 1/2 x 16 3/4 = 12 x 18 Block, which = 216 sq/in div. by 144 equals a chargable size of 1 1/2 sq/feet.

The service bulletins list 2 sizes of door glass (one is an error that we can't get rid of)
...furthermore, neither will work for you since it was printed in 28 and your 30 sizes are different

Back 12 x 24 ... (this one I believe is approximate)

...hope some of this helps you. You're gonna love your tempered glass!
P.S. some shops can create a "pencil polish" edge on the door glass, that looks exactly like the edge of your original plate glass (if they round and polish it)

Paul, Gary, Dave, Mitch, Stallerl and Craig, thank you very much for your responses. I feel a little less lost on the glass subject now. Gary, I sent you an email with my email address. Would appreciate a copy of that service bulletin page. Dave, Mitch and Stallerl, I just looked up an auto glass company in my area that does antique auto glass. I am going to call them today to see if they can use my glass as patterns or if they have their own for my car. Locally cut has to be less expensive and shipping cost from one of the vendors that I looked into would be $160 on top of the cost of glass. Craig, now that is a bunch of information that the advertisers should indicate so that dummies like me don’t freak out when we see all different sizes.
