power disconnect switch
I have been reading how you guys have been installing the disconnect switch, and my question is the shaft you tighten with the brass nuts is not long enough to go through the cross member and floor board. So how have you guys been doing it? I would prefer to have the switch in the car. Thank you Don

Re: power disconnect switch
Mine is under the driver passenger floorboard it's in the car. This is what I'm using on the fordor, I had a very long good cable from some parts boxes and used it for my ground dis-connect.
I have the end through a bolt in the frame that also has ground to the starter and engine, hope this helps and let us know how you make out Don. Last edited by 39portlander; 12-20-2019 at 07:48 PM. |

Re: power disconnect switch
Most recommend it to be on the negative side but having it way back at the battery is not what I would do. It needs to be easy to get to not under the floor. I would use something like this one;
https://www.snydersantiqueauto.com/P...earchByKeyword and mount on the firewall so it can be reached from inside. On the Model A's we mount them under the drivers seat or close to that area where it is easy to reach thru the open door. Also see the replies on the A forum; https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showthread.php?t=274231

Re: power disconnect switch
[QUOTE=Royce P;1835378]The one shown in the first post is of low quality and a sure way to get a lot of trouble in your electrical system. Anything that clamps onto the battery cable is bad. That connection needs to be soldered, as do any and every battery cable end.[/QUOTE
Wow that's interesting seems the other day I was helping my neighbor with a set of jumper cables and pretty sure those were not soldered. As far as that goes the positive and negative battery cables I see for sale are all crimp end fittings like the ones on all my other vehicles, the pictured cable end is solid and will not come off besides its just for a disconnect. Low quality? I bet the resistance through that cable is no different than if that end was soldered. Happy New Year. |
