Default 6 volt tach?

A while back there was a thread on this subject that I cant seem to find. My two flathead powered cars are diametrically opposed gear ratio wise. Both cars are 6 volt. My 32 has 2.80 to one gears, and my 46 business coupe unfortunately has 4.11s . I always wanted to know what these motors were turning at highway speed. Well the other day I was looking at my briggs and Stratton powered duck boat. this motor is a 23 hp vanguard with what is called a "Tiny Tach". This little gem is the simpleist thing in the world. There are just two wires, one wraps around a sparkplug wire the other goes to ground. There is a slight delay in the signal, but unless you are drag racing, it probably wont matter. The power comes from a battery that is built in and will last for years. $ 47.95 and you will have it in a couple of days. I am afraid to see what the 46 is turning at speed. I probably will not install this thing permanantly, just use it as a piece of test equipment. Rich

Any tach must be adjusted to number of cylinders in order to calculate revs. I see Sun tachs with their senders now and then at swap meets, as well as equipment for tuneup purposes that registers the rpm rate.

This tach reads off one plug wire. This plug fires once each two revolutions. The tach doesn't know whether there is one cylinder or twelve. Rich

Based on same technology as a strobelight with inductive pickup.
Nice feauture with selectable multispark setting.
It will take any 2/4 stroke engine you want.
