By regular, I mean one without the PTO for a hydraulic dump. Mine has 2 extra levers that operate a small PTO shaft that runs back to the hydraulic pump. I'd like a 4 speed tranny with out the PTO option.

You can just unbolt the PTO from the trans and make a cover plate and gasket to cover the opening.

I think the covers for the pto are the same on most old transmissions. The covers are usually made out of sheets metal. Some of the auxiliary transmissions had a PTO cover according to a post on this forum. After the snow melted, I checked mine and there were no PTO covers on my axillary transmission..

Correct, they were the same covers for the PTO from 29-47, maybe until 52, but I can not say for sure on that. Rod

I know this a old post, but in my seach for a AA U-joint, I can't find one that will fit my 4 speed trans. And I think Rowdy U-joint is the one I need. I was hopeing Rowdy still had his U-Joint or something like it? Mine is a 6 spline but bigger than a model A U-joint
Let me Know Thanks Kyle Last edited by 29Doodlebug; 02-24-2012 at 08:11 PM. |

The PTO cover plates are a std SAE plate used from around 29 right up to the 80,s or even later on 4 & 5 spd truck trans.

The AA,s didnt use a U-joint at the trans end of coupling shaft.Instead, there was an internal-external wide tooth coupling that allowed a couple degrees angular movement to allow for frame flexing. The rear end of C-shaft mounted to cross member & had U-joint for rear end. There may have been 2 sizes of U-joint as the later 31 LWB AA,s used a larger size coupling shaft.

ColumbiA, there was a service replacement coupling shaft that came out in
1932 that used a bolt together u-joint so you could remove the coupling shaft without removing the rear end or engine. Bob Last edited by Bob C; 02-25-2012 at 12:12 PM. |

Bob C . I learned something new! I didnt know about the improved retro fit C-shaft that came out in 32. I have a 4-speed with the special rear brg retainer & U-joint so that the trans would fit the A chassis.

I have 4 or 5 of the truck u-joints and some for parts. Give me a call Sunday evening and I will make sure I have most of them close by so we can figure out which one you need. Thanks Rod 308-529-2467
