AA transmission Q 1 Attachment(s)
Forgive my ignorance, but I'm new to the AA's. Did the transmissions have hi/low? Is that what's referred to as 'dual high assembly'? Picture is poor(on it's side). Had to manage with a cell phone cam today. Thanks.

Re: AA transmission Q It looks like you have a 4spd, so without more info, I'm guessing 30-31 AA. The 28-29s used the 3spds that the cars used, but used a two speed unit behind the trans. It was an underdrive, so you went either slow, or slower. You're right, it was called a dual high.

Re: AA transmission Q Thanks modeleh. Nice license plate topper BTW. I might as well get one more dumb question out of the way. Also didn't see shocks on the front(rear either). Standard for an AA?
|
Re: AA transmission Q The handle for the light switch should be pointed down at the 6 o'clock position, rather than the 9 o'clock position. I like the buterscotch gearshift knob. Take care of it because they sell pretty high on ebay. If you do have a truck 4 speed, then you have the right tranny for parade use.

Re: AA transmission Q The later AA's generally didn't have shocks front or rear. The earlier ones could have - I don't have the judging standards handy and am not sure when they were mostly phased out. I "think" that some of the later models could have, such as the ambulance, but again, I'm not 100% sure.

Re: AA transmission Q I have a good AA 4 speed with a PTO for a hydraulic dump mechanism that I'd like to trade someone for just a regualr 4 speed. You could have the hydraulic dump mechanism (still works) with the PTO tranny if you want it. Any Interest - email me at [email protected]

Re: AA transmission Q Wasn't there an output shaft change in late 30 or early 31 on the 4 speed? Seems I have ran onto a couple of different sized U-joints on some of them. o far have ran onto 5 different U-jopints in the last 15 years. Rod

Re: AA transmission Q not sure about the output shaft change, but there was a change in the u-joint in late 31. It bolted together which allowed one to remove the intermediate shaft and pull the trans without having to slide the rearend back.

Re: AA transmission Q 4 Attachment(s)
Here is the one I question the most. It bolted directly to the back of the trans without a short shaft. It seems different than the others I have seen. Short Wheelbase? I had it sold at one point, but the buyer could not use it with his as the splines were too big. I removed it from a transmision with the AA part # on the case, so I know it bolts up and is tight to the splines. Not sure what the deal was. Thanks Rod

Re: AA transmission Q If it's 10 spline 1 3/8" it's for a BB.

Re: AA transmission Q Cider Mill, all you need to do is put a block off plate where the PTO goes on your tranny and it will be a regular 4 speed. That is the way mine is set up.

Re: AA transmission Q Would the BB output shaft fit with the gears and case of an AA marked case then? Like I said case marked AA, but fit the shaft perfectly. I have not measured the splines, but wll later this week. Thanks Rod

Re: AA transmission Q Rowdy, The parts book shows the same output shaft for the 4-speed
from 1929 through 1940. |
Re: AA transmission Q Thanks. I wonder what was going on with his then, as he said it did not fit. My U-joint was too big. Rod

Re: AA transmission Q Counting the special U-joints for the Warford I believe there were 5 different joints altogether. I was just shocked afer our phone call that the joint I sent did not fit. Rod

Re: AA transmission Q Might of been, but it is a real nice U-joint that had been taken apart cleaned and greased. All ready to bolt on and go. Not sure how he would have been remorseful and the price was decent also. Rod

Re: AA transmission Q Maybe he was talking about the 10 spline end. The AA is
1 1/4" and the BB is 1 3/8". |
