Welcome to 'The Barn'. I like your truck too. Pretty rare find in that condition in the Northeast! What about running boards? Couple of times I have used fiberglass ones and brush painted them with rustoleum rusty metal primer. I have received comments about my nice straight running boards from knowledgeable enthusiasts. Nobody would even dream that a guy would load brush paint onto fiberglass reproduction parts, so it never comes up. Or maybe you have your metal ones but haven't installed them yet. Keep up the good work.

Sounds like you need a new Bendix drive on your starter.

I'm no mechanic, but starter spinning but engine not turning over sounds like starter bendix or spring to me.

I first had to find running board brackets, then I had the priveldge of removing the rivets of the old brackets.

I bought steel reproduction running boards. I still have to weld the supports on the bottom. I also replaced the old tailgate. Old tailgate was pretty shot with a new reproduction one.

I too have stolen running board brackets from parts trucks. Chisel off both sides heads on the rivet and the bracket is just as connected as before. Driving it out seems to swell the rivet's shank instead, making it tighter yet. Center-punch and drill, but in 1974 who had a cordless drill out in that field? Beat, bash, twist and shout! When you get those gnarled brackets home is when you learn how to straighten steel. Good thing they're hidden under there. I like your new running boards and tailgate. That good ol survivor deserves them.

It is my father's from when he was a kid. My brother left outside for years and trashed it. I "liberated" from his yard one Christmas and brought it home.

I cranked everything moving, it seems to start but everything stops and you hear the starter continuously run in background.

Here is the part I forgot to add, if it helps, after 10 seconds of the starter running the engine flipped back to cracking the like the start of the video.

It seems the motor started and when stalled the starter was still running ?
Does it have a new looking starter button ? Recheck solenoid wiring . Possibly if the wiring is correct the solenoid is sticking . Sticking solenoid is my primary.

My guess is the solenoid is wired wrong. There are nine different solenoids so you need to identify which one you have.

The solenoid looks upside down to me, I don’t recall seeing one mounted like that before.
