Hello New to Forum

Hello.

I bought a F1 1950 with a swapped flathead 8. I have been on a few other forums and facebook groups trying to learn as much as possible. The previous owner of my truck told me I have a short in the distributor wire. Does anyone rebuild distributors?

Thanks

Bryan

Welcome to the barn, I assume your truck originally had a 6 and someone swapped in an 8BA V8.?
Charlie Schwendler rebuilt my distributor, info below.

To help identify what you have see the link below lots of good info.

I am on Long Island, NY. The day i got the truck. I was going to use as "yard art" but decided it cleaned up pretty good.

Two things : First, a new set of proper plug wires would go a long way to clean up the engine compartment. Second, how come a guy with 4 posts (!) is able to post full size pictures when I can't after over 10 years?

Nice truck! I'm sure you'll enjoy it more than if it was left as "lawn art".

Might your ignition problem be in what appears to be a 90 degree bend in the coil wire?

Actually, I do know all of this. I just figure it's a lot less effort for folks who really want to see pictures to just "click" on 'em than for me to go through all of that rigamarole, using up bandwidth in the process.

Welcome. If you want the best flathead Ford advice, there are two definative sources and they are here where the experts are on the Fordbarn or the Early Ford V8 Club website. The groups on social media are what I call the "amateurs".

Yes it is a bit of work. Remember though that pictures that are already posted on most web pages can use the same method. Right mouse click on the picture and look for "copy URL ....", etc. Then with this copied URL, click the picture icon and post the picture. Here are two examples.

Be sure you have wire core spark plug wires NOT. Suppression core.

Dick is referencing a problem I am having starting the truck. While trying to start the truck, the engine turns and then the cranking stops and just the starter engine runs continuously until I turn the key off. My inexperience at first thought it was the engine (even though I knew it didn't sound like the flathead engines I heard in youtube videos I have watched) and I was confused the fan and pulleys would stop. I will try to post a video.

Today I took all the spark plugs out. All the cylinders have some compression and all the spark plugs spark. I double-checked that again. I did that during the summer when I bought the truck.

Welcome to the site. Also check out the Early Ford V8 Site if you haven't already (https://www.earlyfordv8.org/index.cfm). You should add your general location to your profile, you can never tell when it is going to pay off.
