Kinda sound like moist sand is the issue Lawson, I used to have a unit like yours and it happened often with mine. I have a Tip pressure unit now and have a moisture trap and still have to keep the bleeder open a bit because of surplus moisture coming in the line . U need ultra dry media as you already know i'm sure.

If sand is left in the blaster it picks up moisture from the air.

It's done. Barner bbrocksr wins the crocheted coffee pot. His solution worked, but thanks to all who contributed suggestions. As luck would have it, just as I finished the last little bit on the transmission, the old air line blew a hole in it. When I say old, I mean old. I bought that hose, used from Delta Airlines probably 35 years ago. (Everything I have is old.) I put the oil pan in the bead blasting cabinet and cleaned that up. It took a little finagling in some spots but I got 'er done. Now I can switch back to glass beads for the heads, intake, distributor, etc.

I have the transmission and oil pan in primer. Top coat tomorrow, weather permitting, and it is looking good at this point.
