It's like the story of the Apollo 13 guys playing a prank on Jim Lovell by changing the ratio of the gears in his new corvette. I don't know if its true, but it is a good one!

Did you get the distributor issue figured out?

I would agree that it has nothing to do with a part coming out of the engine. I can't think of a way something that size could come out of the engine and land in that drip pan. As Daveymc29 suggested, it could have been kicked up from the road, or been hiding on top of the trans/bell/flywheel housing and finally fell.

Likely someone stuck an old shaft seal around the wishbone ball stem, in two halves, to temporarily "fix" a worn ball condition. It's just about the right size. Popped out right into the added drip pan!
Halftime score: Worn wishbone ball 1, Used-car mechanic 0. |

Maybe someone had it around the ball of the wishbone and it squeezed out finally. Some thing rigged up?

Maybe a home-brew brake rod anti-rattler?

Kicked up from the road maybe?

I agree it looks like a Mode A grommet. Maybe the choke rod or one that goes through the firewall someplace and it fell in the pan.
