You can use bungee cords to tie the chairs to the spare tire.

Thumbs up Re: Carrying folding chairs

To keep with the tradition/era of Model-A's I only use old (but sturdy) wood folding chairs. I can store 2 of the chairs in the rumble seat with the lid closed.

__________________________________________________ ______________

All parts suppliers of Ford Model A Parts carry the extension brackets that allow for the mounting of a luggage rack (which they also sell) behind the rear-mounted spare tire.

Snyder's has them as item # A-18576-BSB - for the 1930-31 Sedan - $37, on page A-180 of their 2014 catalog.

Another version, a bit more heavty and with a different design (copy of an original accessory) is Bratton's "Luggage Rack Adapter Bracket", item #25171 (for '28-'31 Sedans) $77 for the pair. Page 111 of their 2015 Catalog.

Bert's Model A Center has a similar rack extension for the Sedans on page 94 of their 2014 catalog: item # A-18080-D. $58 a pair.

These are the sources that I use, you may use another A Parts Supplier, but I think all suppliers carry them.

The Chrome & wood slat Luggage Rack runs about $150, from which ever source you get it.
Awesome, perfect information. Just in time for Christmas.

Thank you.

Like others have stated, you can use extensions so the rack is behind your spare.

Kudos to you.....authenticity goes hand in hand when living in the past. I acquired, a few years back, a 1920/30s folding cruise ship folding deck chair, fit's right in. I stole it off the Lusitania!!!!

What about one of those extending/expanding running board luggage racks?
Sounds like a perfect setup.

Just my W.A.G. at the problem.

A friend has a pic of his 2 sedans, when they used to go camping for 2 weeks in the back country of the HIGH SIERRAS. Stuff even tied on the roof, it looked like they were MOVING!

Thanks to the previous owner that converted the rumble seat to a trunk, I now have room for several chairs , some spare parts and a picnic basket in my Special coupe and nothing hanging outside.

I purchase one of the chrome trunk racks, with the wood slats. It does appear to be quite nice quality. The wood slats only really show when the rack is up. The slats are held in place with quite a few small bolts.

How do you protect the leather finish on the bottom of the trunk from all of those bolts?

I was thinking about a thin (1/4") plywood piece, painted black. Any other suggestions please?

Thank You; Brian

Although Sarah is a Coupe, I've been able to load up two folding picnic chairs, folding picnic table, picnic cooler basket, golf clubs and a portable Victrola into my rumble without taking out the seat rest, the seat itself, yes. Of course I've had to cut out two of may lady friends but the two in front keeps me warm enough.

Well Brian....that is an ongoing question here.....my opinion based on experience keeping equipment off the floor from water is to, set the trunk on the slats, the other way is "strictly" for decoration....IMO, for actual function, set the trunk on the slats!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tip # 271: If you're stuck in a short legged folding chair & can't get up, jist ROLL out on the ground, hang your tongue out & there'll be 9 people there to help you!

'31,
A PALLET is a makeshift bed, on a HARD floor!

So.....if I understand....take the slats off and put them on the inside of the rack, and place the trunk bottom on the slats? Just cut them to length to fit inside?

Thank You Very Much; Brian

Not quite, just turn the platform over and mount it when in the down position the slats are on top. The idea is that your trunk does not sit down inside where it sits in water when it rains. The trunk is still bolted down and the straps run through the strap holes.
