Carrying folding chairs

I have a Briggs Town sedan with rear spare tire. I use folding chairs, as I cannot get out of bag chairs. I currently just put them on the rear floor, not when it's just 2 of us, but when carrying 2 passengers....I am wondering what others do, to carry their chairs?

Re: Carrying folding chairs

My neighbor wraps them in a blanket and ties them ( bungee cord ) to the rear mounted trunk. Wayne

Same as you but I do have a trunk rack that I can strap them to. I've even carried a bare B block on it.

Re: Carrying folding chairs

I found some folding cloth chairs that fit in the trunk on my Town Sedan at REI. I can fit four if I take everything else out. I think REI is just on the west coast.

So, how can I install a trunk rack, with a rear mounted spare tire?

All parts suppliers of Ford Model A Parts carry the extension brackets that allow for the mounting of a luggage rack (which they also sell) behind the rear-mounted spare tire.

Snyder's has them as item # A-18576-BSB - for the 1930-31 Sedan - $37, on page A-180 of their 2014 catalog.

Another version, a bit more heavty and with a different design (copy of an original accessory) is Bratton's "Luggage Rack Adapter Bracket", item #25171 (for '28-'31 Sedans) $77 for the pair. Page 111 of their 2015 Catalog.

Bert's Model A Center has a similar rack extension for the Sedans on page 94 of their 2014 catalog: item # A-18080-D. $58 a pair.

These are the sources that I use, you may use another A Parts Supplier, but I think all suppliers carry them.

The Chrome & wood slat Luggage Rack runs about $150, from which ever source you get it.

Re: Carrying folding chairs

I just throw them in the back of my PU.

Those folding canvas chairs are way too hard for me to get out of as well.

What is a "bag chair"? Are you talking about the chairs you blow up with air of the chairs that collapse and are placed into a bag for storage? If the bag chair you are having problems getting out of is the "blow up" kind try shopping at some sporting goods stores for the chairs that fold up and go into a bag for storage. You should be able to find a running board storage rack that will carry the type of chairs that fold up and go into a bag.

I used to have a bag chair, I'm assuming you mean the canvas on metal type (cheap, Walmart) that went on the floor of my tudor. Broke about three getting out, one time ended on the ground and had to be helped up (very embarrassing !). Last Christmas I got a Coleman folding chair that I now carry in the back seat area of my tudor. Very sturdy, about 35$.

Re: Carrying folding chairs

You can buy a wood and canvas "director's chair" that folds up, and if that's too tall just cut some off the legs.

I have a 29 Special Coupe with a rear mount spare and a chrome luggage rack. I can put a 10X10 folding tent, two folding chairs and a folding dog stroller on my rack. Make sure that everything is strapped down securely. Dwayne

I added a trunk behind my spare tire with the heavy duty extenders for the luggage rack. I believe they are3/8 not the thin 1/4" ones.

We have a REI in Kennesaw, Georgia. Far from the west coast.
