I used a U-haul to haul my "A" to the engine re-builder garage. About 80 miles each way. No problem. I think the total cost was about $75.00 dollars for (I think - 2 days use) It's like any collectibles though, to the open road travel. I wouldn't want to go any long distances with a restored vehicle exposed to possible damage. It is better to be in an enclosed trailer of truck.

Question I had with your cost is how much gas did you use pulling a trailer with your pull rig. We purchased a trailer a couple of years ago and find that I get about 5 MPG less with my Chev pickup pulling a trailer.

But anyway, it looks like you still had a good deal. Added gas may have been only a $100 or so.

As far as gas mileage went, the truck pulling the Model A and full of heavy household "stuff" got 12 miles per gallon of gasoline.

I used the Sagamore along with the nice road from 25. Not very heavy use and the entrance to the Sagamore has it's own lane.

After the rest of the household "stuff" arrives, I'll find a club.

By the way, the car seems to like the West Dennis Beach Air...smooth riding.

used U haul a number of times and I have a gooseneck and a reg. car hauler trailer. If the vehicle is a long way off, say 500 miles plus I'll drive there with just my truck, and if it is a buy I just rent a u-haul. They sure do track nice...

A UHaul trailer came with my Model A and I've been very happy with it.

I have used Uhaul quite a bit and like it. But I have had a couple of problems. I find that they do not like to rent if the car you are hauling is not on their list. In that case I put in a VW but I suppose that voids any insurance if there is a crash. The other problem I had was with the brakes. The master cylinder was froze up so there were no brakes. I told the agent about it when I dropped it off but he said they don't fix anything. He was just a hardware store. I guess some of the smaller dealers are more risky to rent from and are just jockeys rather than Uhaul reps.

I used one16 years ago and it was a very bad experience. I won't go into the detail but it was to go from Houston to San Antonio to pick up a Tudor. By the time all was said and one I could have hired a wrecker with a roll back had him dead-head to SA to pick it up and drop it off for less money.

I have used U-Haul a few times for different reasons without problems. When I reserved the trailer to bring the Tudor home, the U-Haul agent told me its weight and that it would be no problem.

Here is our Tudor outside our appraiser's house while on its way to our place. Note we did not use the U-Haul straps but substituted four tie downs instead.

Before anybody makes a smart remark, the red tie down is not holding on the spokes, but is just passed through to allow the excess to be wrapped around the bumper.

I used one from the cape to worcester. Straps fell off the wheels but the car stayed on the trailer. Thank God. Used it again from NY to worcester and cranked the straps and had no issues.

I used a U-Haul when I purchased my Model A and hauled it from Des Moines to Davenport, IA. The only issue I had was the trailer was behind some plowed snow so it was a little challenging to get out. And that it was -15 deg F when I picked the car up so strapping it down was a memorable experience!
