UHaul Used a UHaul car transport to take my Model A from Minnesota to Cape Cod. Worked O.K. even with the narrow tires and the wheel strap method used by UHaul.
Had a number of people give me a thumbs up as they passed me...also, I had some people take pictures as they drove by. One guy on the New York thru way even tried to talk to me as they were passing ! I used the UHaul method since the commercial people couldn't give me a fixed time to pick up the car or deliver it. Plus, they wanted more than 1$ per mile (1500 miles from MN to Cape Cod). The UHaul car hauler was $240. Marc |
Re: UHaul About 25 years ago, I did a one way UHaul trunk rental from Florence, SC to Toledo, OH.. all fine but the 55mph max speed and I-77 in WV was a white knuckle grip time :) Last large truck I rented was from Rider.. I'll say lots of improvement from 20 years + ago..

Re: UHaul u hauls do the job if you dont mind the car being exposed to the elements... i used one to get my first A in 2006 from ILL to PA... the hydraulic brake systems work adequate...

Worked good!

Re: UHaul 1 Attachment(s)
I like the Uhaul trailers. Very well built and well maintained. They track well behind the pulling vehicle and the low profile makes for easier loading. I do utilize additional hold-down straps, just for extra safety.

Re: UHaul I have used the Uhaul trailer and dolly and have no complaints about the equipment. Some less than friendly folks, but that is local. They just seem to think they are doing me a favor.

Re: UHaul Hey 1st. Grumpy...where along the trip did you lose the hood, rad and engine?!
(Nice photo). |
Re: UHaul 1 Attachment(s)
I like the Uhaul trailers. I've used them several times with no problems. The major problem for me has been availability. I've reserved trailers in the past and cancelled the reservation when I didn't buy the car. No hassle from Uhaul.
I now have my own 16 ft. alum car hauler & I love it! |

Re: UHaul 2 Attachment(s)
Here's my UHaul rig, ready for and in action. The entire outfit is colour matched with the whitewall theme tastefully extended throughout. :D
Is this what we're talking about? |

Re: UHaul I used a U-haul to haul my "A" to the engine re-builder garage. About 80 miles each way. No problem. I think the total cost was about $75.00 dollars for (I think - 2 days use) It's like any collectibles though, to the open road travel. I wouldn't want to go any long distances with a restored vehicle exposed to possible damage. It is better to be in an enclosed trailer of truck.
