Saw similar events so often ..... especially among friends and family ..... auto accident ..... please don't call authorities .... I'll pay for it ..... then the driver who hit the vehicle goes home ..... the story changes like .... the sun was in my eyes .... the wind was blowing .... I was being careful and this vehicle came out of "nowhere" ...... the other family members begin to agree ...... the spouse who has to pay offers other far more convincing excuses ... the entire family acquires an instant Law Degree, all become appointed Supreme Court Judges, (like the ones we now have), and after a few days it really was nobody's fault. LOL

About $2000-$2800, done right, I'd guess. In PDX, anyway.

He was honest! Admitted his mistake! Get it fixed and don't ruin a neighbor relationship. Yes its a treasure, I have two very nice restored A's and yes I would be upset but he came to you admitting he did it and will make it good. In the end, Friends are more valuable. Be grateful!

Yea that can really ruin your day!! One thought, and I,m not in any way blaming you If you did but did you happen to park across the street at the end or close to his driveway? When neighbors have visitors it never fails they park at the end of my driveway across the street. So when I,m at someones house I make it a habit to avoid driveways as much as possible. Sorry that happened!! Pete

Backup sensors didn't work. Minor problem. Soon YOU and your loved ones will be competing with cars driven by a computer with lots of sensors. OOPs, if you live in California then you already are. Scared yet? Computers are great when they work, but ...?

I agree, and while I personally make the effort to turn and look the very large headrests in my daily driver '13 Tahoe make it difficult to see. I do have the back-up monitor screen but rarely ever look at it.
While I think it would be the right thing to do if one remains cordial with the driver/neighbor in the fender incident it remains to be seen how he will react when the bill is presented for a proper repair of the damage. Doing the right thing is a two way street.

If I had a dollar the the times someone damaged and dashed on my cars, I could buy a new goodyear tire for my Model A.... I park all my cars as far from others as I can but dents and door skins fenders gets old. You're luck the guy Man'ed up and did the right thing.

I had my Corsica parked (backed in as usual) in the last parking space in the row at a Dollarama in Nova Scotia in 2010.

When we came out of the store, we noticed that my drivers fender was bashed in and a small grey car trying to back in again where there was no parking. The lady in the grey car said "Did we do that?" (YES!) The evidence was on the ground - their rear side marker light from their car was on the ground and a dent in their plastic rear bumper. Their insurance company came good for it - ~$1100 to fix my car.

Good luck with the insurance company

I sold cars for 50 years. The newer cars have so many blind spots that they NEED back up cameras. There are also many older folks that have arthritis and have a real hard time turning their head. I would get it fixed at a good shop or fix it yourself and move on.

So many people are just down right ignorant anymore If you hadn't walked out of the store when you did they would have been long gone.......

My neighbot has a 2004 Jaguar which they have been trying to sell for a long time. The wife drove it to work last week and while at a stop light, the guy behind bumped the rear bumper. All it did to the plastic bumper was move it very slightly up in the center and crack the bumper paint. I probably would have told the guy give me $50 and forget it. The estimate is $1500 and the guy offered $800 to keep it out of the insurance company. My neighbor wants the $1500.

Haha. Not quite yet but I hear they're testing driverless 18 wheelers in Nevada...

Honestly, in my view holding animosity, frustration, or writing this to fault a neighbor is part of the problem with society today. This neighbor admitted he made a mistake, ...and honestly gave a reasonable explanation as to how his mistake occurred. We are ALL human and I am pretty we ALL make mistakes. If I were in your shoes (--which BTW I have been), I definitely would try to make it as pleasant of an experience for your neighbor as possible. I am not saying you need to absorb all responsibility but a positive & forgiving attitude throughout this entire incident will likely pay huge dividends to your health and to your neighbor's health. THAT in my opinion is what matters in this hobby!
I could not agree more. Brent put it in the proper perspective !

I want to clarify some items regarding this post.
1. I was really frustrated that our Model A was damaged through someone’s inattention.
2. I personally place values on my material possessions, based on how much the item means to me, along with the effort and money I put have into it. I consider that my decision.
3. Just want Ford Barners to understand that their cars can be involved in an accident regardless of where they are parked or driven.
4. Local municipalities have laws regarding reporting accidents, which may not be the same for all locations; any accident on a Public Road in the area where I live requires an accident report.
5. I find it ironic that someone would make the accusation that my posting this incident on Ford Barn is “part of the problem with society today”, and yet they used the same forum to post a message making that allegation towards me. Perhaps it is true; as I noticed that another member quoted and agreed with his post in a later message.I respectfully disagree.
6. Our vehicle was parked in front of my house, about 12-15 Feet away from driveway of my neighbor’s house to the right of my house. When he backed out, turned onto the street before he was far enough out into the street, and he backed up too far, striking my car.
7. While I was upset and frustrated that the car was damaged, I never wanted any Financial, Emotional or Physical pain to my neighbor, obviously that was not clear in my posting.
8. Just to clarify, while it wasn’t a good thing, and neither of us wanted it to happen, it happened, and we will fix the car and move forward. Both of us were civil when interfacing with each other, both during and since it happened. It was an accident, no one intended anything unpleasant for the other party.
9. I have received two estimates for the repair from Local Restoration Shops, and provided them to my neighbor. As anticipated, he is going to send them to his insurance company.
10. The relationship with my neighbor remains fine, before and after the damage.

Thanks,

Bob

your neighbor turning it in to his ins was a given since he thought it could just be banged out and spray bombed.. most have no conception of whats involved regarding labor and modern day costs to fix something right.

I had a fella "ring my doorbell" several years ago at 5:30 AM.. He told me how sorry he was that his truck had slid off the road and damaged some of my Brick & Wrought Iron Fence. He was a neighbor from down the road..... Oh he took out a 25' tree also.

'Course, his truck was totaled and hung up in the rubble.....LOL
