Hi Vic
I installed a 49 Merc O/D in the tonner. It was a simple drop in swap. I fabricated a bolt in extension to the OEM X member that supported the OEM 4 speed trans. The extension supports the Merc transmission mount that's part of the tailshaft. The attached photos give you some idea of what's involved. As I recall all the trucks after WW2 used the ladder bar type frame like the tonner. The other thing you may have to do is shorten the driveshaft.
