Anyone familiar with or seen a cast iron intake 1+1 carbs. Name on intake is 'Irving Twin Intake' ? Any info available on his intake ? It appears to be reversible, i.e.- two up or two down, but they have to be single throat carbs. A guy that I know showed me a picture of this same make intake with two zeniths attached as an updraft.

Wow, that is really neat. I would like to find one of those also. Looks like it would run Model A or B Zeniths. Thanks for sharing Hardtimes.

I Googled "Irving twin intake" and this thread pops up.
![]() Looks like its for two updrafts, preferably...for the writing to be right-side-up. Is it for sale? Thanks for the pic. ![]() |

The runners and manifold look really small. You could probably run model A Zenith,Tillotson or Marvel dual updrafts with it. It looks too small to give full benifit with model B Zenith carbs or most single throat down draft carbs that I've seen. It looks like there would be real restriction at the carb mounting flanges. I've never seen one exactly like that.

I just dug this out of storage, because another barner asked if I had a duel alum vortex. I couldn't remember name, having not seen it for many years. Have never seen another, except in pic from friend. His shown to me with, as said, two zeniths. YES, I'd consider selling...if you have to have it,eh ![]() |

That thing would look incredible with dual Detroit Lubricators sitting on top. Talk about setting the period for your engine, boom 1932 only.

I wonder if used as downdraft there might be some conflict with the distributor?
I have twin Stromberg downdrafts and had to resort to a conventional distributor cap as the ears of the original cap came in contact with the carbs Keith |

![]() I'm not into updrafts or would be using it myself. I use 2x2 downdrafts, like Winfields , 81 strombergs ![]() I'm into trading stuff also. What ever happened to horse trading type transactions anyway ? |

The horses were either put out to pasture or sold to the glue factory.

It may not be as small as it looks in the pictures.. Yes manifolds and blocks can be milled. Measurments would tell the story of how far it could be enlarged . Cast iron is a real plus. Aluminum manifolds are weaker and can't be milled much and still support cast iron carbs. The Vortex was suppose to have B size runners but ended up model A size, I think that is the reason that it showed no difference in the dyno tests whether A or B carbs werre used. I've got a vortex manifold in my collection but hesitate to ream the aluminum runners. If I ever use it I will likely run the lighter Marvel carbs. If I saw your manifold at a swap meet I would try to latch on to it if I could . I'm into dual updrafts .

Thanks ![]() I know a guy, that I will call..for information. He has a whole wall covered with these (exotic) updrafts. Collects 'things' model a and just hangs them in his garage. Will not sell anything and no one will ever get to put them to use till after he dies with them ! This one will not go into his wall collection, but will be used by someone. The carb in the link is simply an industrial carb built for use on the A motor, chevrolet never had a carb like that. They had small carbs similar to a Model T and in 31 switched to downdraft. It has the 4 holes so it can be mounted the standard way or angled to the side to allow for linkages on a generator or such a unit. Your manifold has the 4 holes for the same reason, but on the manifold I would assume it would be for clearance of the 2 carbs rather than linkages for industrial use.

![]() I have a message in for a return call from a real knowledgeable old timer, who has a huge collection of Ford carbs and intakes of 20s/30s era. If anyone has some info regarding this intake, I think it will be him. Maybe tomo I'll have something to report. |
