Default 30-31 CCPU steering column position

Have a Closed cab pickup..steering hard and it catches as one turns..QUESTION..what effect does steering wheel position have on steering ?? I may have wheel raised too high ..PS have new Teflon joints on linkage..32 backing plates and drums.

The location of the column does matter as far as the turns lock-to-lock by a little however it does not affect hard steering as the wheel is turned.

I suspect you have one or more issues with worn steering balls, and likely linkage too. I find the best thing for the Teflon inserts is to have a polished ball that is completely round. Mirror finish with a little grease is awesome here. Also, too tight on the drag link plug (A-3328) and spindle connecting rod (tie-rod) end plug will cause this. Seat the insert against the ball and turn ½ rotation. If the spring is in good shape, there is no need for being tighter.

Thanks for reply..I tried to keep tension on ball caps light to help steering but did not want them to pop off ..I suspect the 32 backing plates and 12" drums are an issue here as well..maybe box is not adjusted proper either .. Sc
