Default Dash light, too bright

Any one out there found a bulb that is not as bright as the GE 89 that I have for my dash light?. It is a single pole 12volt bulb,in the original holder. I find it to be very bright, would like less glare, but still need it at night. Thanks Don

I rotate the cap on my late 1931's dash light to control and direct the light.

i find it is not only too bright, it gets VERY hot. I just touch the cover gingerly for a second or so for a quick look and then off. Actually I prefer a flash light {:>)

Go to your nearest high school and ask the theatre department for some amber colored gel. It is the plastic that they put in spot lights to change the color. By adding layers you can dim the light.

GE 67 - same basic specs except HD filament with 4 candle power instead of 6.
Longer expected life - 5000 hrs instead of 750. (Could be a touch larger diameter).
You might have to find an aircraft supplier if the automotive guys don't have them.
I used to dip my dash light bulbs in blue paint to cut down the glare.
They smell like hot paint for a while though.

Regards
Art

Here is the 28V 6 cp. version of the #89 12V 6 cp. lamp.
Link to GE 623 lamp
On 12V it will just glow amber and will give you only 2.3 watts.

# 67 should still be readily available; it was the standard "license plate light" bulb from 1956 until the wedge based bulbs came along in the late '80s...

Should be a 3 to 4 Candlepower lamp, equivalent to the OEM # 63 six-volt.
