why would you go backward? I have the same set up on my 29 roadster, the head lights and tail lights are nice and bright. and it starts up very easy. if you don't like look of an alternator you could convert a generator to put out 12 volts. also you would have to add a regulator. I like my 12 volts and would never go backward lust my opinion
