Loosen the thumbscrew, remove the bale, remove the glass bowl and empty it?

a few particles is not a problem. as QGolden said and also remove the screen and clean that out. always install a new bowl gasket cork is better.

i dont like to wipe things like that out with a rag to avoid rag lint. i usually just use brake kleen or 2+2 and a little air dry. same goes with oil and trans pans etc.etc

Joe just like others have said you cannot be too safe working with gasoline. Don't do this above a hot engine to avoid spilling raw fuel on the exhaust manifold...have shop rags available...always wear nitrile gloves when working with fuel...and if possible do this work outside--not only to disperse the fumes but should something drastic happen you don't want to burn the garage down...have a fire extinguisher available. Installation sequence is screen, gasket then the sediment bowl. After cleaning and installing the bowl with the bale nut tight crack open the fuel shut off and loosen the bale nut under the bowl to allow air to escape and fill the bowl with fuel quickly tighening the bale nut when the bowl begins to overflow...wipe up spills...good luck!

Thanks to all. . .ran into a problem. Did not have a replacement gasket. Need to get one. The gasket on the current version was rubber and it was breaking down. Tried to put it all back together until I get a new gasket and it leaks pretty good. Decided to dump the bowl again, remove the rubber gasket, keep the fuel off and bowl empty until the gasket gets to my location.
