Default Re: New Type Oil Pan Gasket Installation

My 1930 Coupe has less than 500 miles on the rebuilt engine and drips a little oil from back of the pan where it goes around the rear main. I called the professional shop in Georgia which did the restoration and asked the owner about. He said (in a very southern drawl) "Whall........They all do that.......and if it ever stops drippin oil.....you're probably out of oil." I said, "are you telling me not to worry about it?" He said, "I'm telling you not to worry about it."

I got a drip pan for my garage floor. After reading this thread, I am convinced I made the right decision. It doesn't leak enough to show a decline on the dipstick.

For many years I used heavy grease to hold the gasket in place and a dab of sealant in the corners. If you are dealing with the oil pump get the fitting that holds the pump in place. If you are working with the oil pan, then get the right tools to work with the oil pan, or get a mechanic. If you change the cam gear, you need the socket to remove the nut not a cold chisel. Come on guys, we are not still doing shade tree stuff are we. Iceman
