can some one please help me find out what year my car really is? what are some of the difference between years body # difference between deluxe and regular thank for the help

The main difference between Std and Dlx that I'm aware of is the Std have a 15" windshield while the Dlx is 13".
There are a couple changes between 30 and 31 depending on month of build. But, the main one is the radiator shell. 30 is all stainless while 31 has body color painted inserts/facia.

A few differences- 30 has separate splash aprons and a small piece between the fender and splash apron, 31 sigle piece.
Also I believe hinges on doors 30 and 31 are different. I think hinge on 31 has 3 screws ratrher than two, but those are just good guesses. Pete

So cowl lights on a 4 Door Phaeton would be an add on, not a "Deluxe" feature? Are all 4 door Phaeton tops the same height or is there a lower version? Bob

As others said, there are no "Deluxe" 4 door Phaetons. The 4 door Phaeton tops are Black and all the windshield frames are the same height and are painted, not plated.

We have established for him the differences between a deluxe and standard but the question I have is about the standard, between 30 and 31. I didn't explains it very well the first time, on a 30 roadster body that area on the latch side of the jamb at the top by the belt molding has a recess that follows the round shape of the belt moulding . in late 30 this area is squared off i have never had chance to look at a standard pheaton and wondered If they have the same feature. I hope someone understands what I mean if not I will have to attemp to upload a photo of mine to illustrate my question

I guess the body in question has the late Round Speedometer, and not an endented firewall, correct?

If you really can't figure out what year your body is, look at the numbers. If I remember correctly, they made something like 5000 31 standard phaetons versus 16000 30 models. That gives you about a 75% chance of it being a 30. I believe the judging standard says something about the rear door latch being redesigned in late 30 to accept a third screw. If your rear doors were only held on with two screws, then for sure you have a 30. Either way, you have a far rarer car than the 59,000 29 models built.

To answer Todd, yes the door tops changed like on the roadster (same front doors for both cars). Again I'm trying to remember something that I haven't read in a while but I think the door top shape changed around mid 30 so that wouldn't really help figure out 30 or 31. Again I'm guessing on the time change.

The body number should have a couple letters in front of the number to identify the assembly plant, such as TC404 would be the Twin Cities and th 404th body of that style installed. My 1928 Pheaton has TC 476 and a tank date 9-27-28. You can see Phaetons weren't popular in a cold state.

I've only seen one body with a stamped date, and that was an indented firewall and the date was stamped on the left side near the door sill.

Here are some photos of the Body Number stamp on my early 1930 Canadian Standard Phaeton, it appears that the Body was assembled in Detroit.

As the guys have stated, you need to let us know how many doors your phaeton (note the spelling) has before proceeding. General differences between '30-31 have been given, but there was also a crossover period between the years where the usual 1931 features didn't appear until early in the year, such as the radiator shell with painted tops and bottoms.
If you are fortunate enough to have a Deluxe Phaeton with the two wide doors, there is an easy way to distinguish between a 1930 and 1931 Deluxe Phaeton. The 1931 D.P. had an extra side curtain snap on the door moulding about mid-distance between the two outer ones. It was discovered on 1930 Deluxe Phaetons that the side curtains flapped against the door without this added snap in the top moulding. Of course, if the firewall is indented, then you for sure have a 1931 body. Not all 1931's have this feature, especially prior to about May (date is subject to debate).
The interiors are totally different between the Standard Phaeton (four doors) and the DeLuxe Phaeton (two doors), comparable to the difference between '30-31 Standard and DeLuxe Roadsters. The 1931 Standard Phaeton is almost rarer than the same year DeLuxe Phaeton, but guess which one brings the big bucks!

Still haven't take my Phaeton out yet this year.
