Default 29 Model A running funny

I just finished a complete restore of my 29 Model A Truck. Had the carbs done by a guy who really knew his stuff. It will start, idol and sounds great until i get about 5 minutes of running then is starts to bog down and back fire. I will be trying all the basics but any ideas where to start?

Out of curiosity as it sat for any period of time with fuel in the tank? Beautiful truck by the way.

it may not be the carb, maybe points, coil or condensor, those problems sound like electrical, either one of them getting hot and breaking down

How many carbs have you got on it?

If you have more than the common updraft carb you maybe starving for gas. Maybe a need for a fuel pump if you're running any kind of downdraft carb.

i was told once by a friend who worked on a lot of cars of different types "if you think its carb its probably ignition"
so if the gas cap trick doesnt work (i has for me in the past) then check your condensor

Make sure you have a good fuel flow. Disconnect from the carb and let it flow into a Jar for a few minutes. You could have trash blocking the on/off valve, or trash in the sediment bowl.

What carb (s) are you running?

The original carbs have a brass scren in the top half and it sometimes stays stuck in place when the large nut is removed.

Could also maybe be a bad coil. If they are going bad, you will start off just fine, but when it heats up after a little bit of runnning, it will have those symptoms as well.

A dirty trick to pull on someone is to switch the gas and radiator caps when they aren't looking.

I had noticed the cap issue but failed to realize what would happen. I'll try that then the ignition stuff. I leave for a week in the am but I'll post the results later. Thanks for all the info
