I want to explore the possibly hidden treasures that lie under the front seat of my early Briggs Town Sedan. I've owned the car for twenty years, and have never had a peek at what's under there.
I have no trouble lifting and removing the rear seat bottom and back, but I am stumped at how this is achieved with the front seat. A fellow club member has a very similar front seat on his '31 Murray Town Sedan, and he just sticks his hand into the crevice between the back and bottom cushions, and pulls the bottom cushion up and out. I've tried this on my Briggs, but it doesn't seem to want to budge at all. I can reach 5-6 inches inside between the cushions until I'm finally able to grab around the edge of the bottom cushion, but again, it doesn't seem to want to pull out. I don't want to rip or break anything. Any Briggs owners with advice would be appreciated. BTW, this seat has NO visible adjuster as does my friend's Murray. Is that normal? |

Arthur,
I only know coupe stuff, but if you were closer, we'd get that dude out somehow!! I found a DIAMOND watch under the seat of a '53 Packard that I bought once! The previous owner said it wasn't his & let me keep it!! Sold it for $1,500.00!!! Bet he thought it had fake diamonds. Bill W. (Let us know what you find) as the only excitement here is an itch in the middle of my back that I can't reach!!!!

The seat bottom is simply indexed into the bottom frame. Grab it underneath the front center and lift it up. Unless it has been glued down it should come up and out.
The 60A and B "blindbacks" do not have an adjustable front seat. Gar Williams Last edited by Aerocraft; 09-03-2012 at 05:54 AM. |

I have a 30Briggs Town Car. My seat lifts from the front. There are 2 holes (left and right) that that a stud slips into. I will say you really have to push backward and down to get it back in. Yours may just be very tight.

Arthur: Here is a picture of the front seat on my '29 155B. I have lifted the front seat up so that you can see the seat cushion support and the two "pins" used to locate the cushion. You can also see the seat adjustment mechanism. Gar Williams

Dumb Guy:
Glad I could be of service ??? Bill & Gar: VERY helpful! Thanks for the picture! I do not have the large adjustment knob (or any adjustment knob, for that matter). But knowing what it looks like under the cushion should be helpful. I'll tackle the job tonight after work and let you know what I come up with. -Rich |

You'll probably find a complete set of dealer brochures, a NOS Quail, clock, and lighter, plus the original tool kit unopened. Or maybe 25 pounds of mouse poop.

My 155B is an unrestored daily runner and it's easy to open it up for detail shots. I also have a restored 155A if anyone needs pictures. Gar Williams ([email protected]) |
