Hi : Can anyone confirm if a 1A ( '51 Ford) 10 bolt pig will fit in my '54 Merc. The current one in the car, (a 4.10 ratio) looks externally identical to the 1A centre section ( a 3.90 ratio). Thanks : Bruce

Not positive but I remember hearing about different splines in the spider gears,to verify pull an axle and try it.

O.K. guys, just for the record, the 1A pig fits perfectly in my '54 Merc housing and even the axles interchange (same spline and length). As a bonus the 3.90 gives me a little less RPM at any given speed than the 4.10 and all the niose is gone. I found a Hemmings site that gives all the rear end data for all Fords and Mercs from '32 to '57. It showed that 49-'early '55 Fords were the same as '52-'54 Mercury. Thanks : Bruce

The 54-56 wagons had different rear so it will not fit those. That means that it will probably fit a 55 and 56 also (except wagons and Tbirds)
