FYI. Illinois plates got longer as the number of digits increased. The value, condition being equal, is related to the length. Shorter plates with fewer digits are worth more and more as they get shorter. A 7 digit plate like the one shown is the longest plate they made. I acquired a number of 4 digit plates but then left the state. Never did get a 3 digit. Lots of Illinois plates on cars have been sectioned removing digits and length from the center of the plates to make a more desirable plate. Illinois has no requirements for YOM plates except the year so anything goes.
