Default Oval Speedometer

Any suggestions why my speedometer cable would be stuck in the speedometer? I unscrewed it and have wrestled with it but the cable seems to be stuck. I don't want to break the cable or mess up the speedometer. Help please.
Thanks

Perhaps the cable end has started to rotate within the head and is now wedged "over center". Not certain how much force "wrestled with it" entailed, but you might try gripping the exposed part of the head (with smooth-jawed needle-nose pliers) and try wiggling the cable back and forth with another pair of pliers.
