Choke rod top
I assume the top part of a choke rod can be removed, i.e. for replating the rod. I assume the top part would need to be removed to have the rod replated, but maybe not. I have never tried to remove the top. Is it difficult to do and how would it be done to not damage the rod or top part?

Re: Choke rod top
Rusty, much easier method, go to your local hardware store there is a plastic product,. cant remember the name now. There is a product that you can dip tools in that give a rubber plastic coating, Dip the end in that and send to platter and you are good. then peel off when it returns..
Here is a link to help also and its called vinyl plastisol. http://www.fordgarage.com/pages/chokerodplating.htm

Re: Choke rod top
Mark,
Thanks for the tip. Vince's site has so many helpful tips, but I forget to look many times. I guess I would have thought the coating would melt or be destroyed during the plating process, but I guess not. Rusty Nelson |

Re: Choke rod top
Rusty, the PLASTICOAT factory is right here in Blaine. Menards and Fleet-Farm sell the stuff.

Re: Choke rod top
It's been 20 years so I'm not sure I recall correctly. However I recall the end of the rod was swaged forming two ears 180 degrees apart and the knob was cast in place so it could not move in ANY direction without breaking.
I did remove it however.
