Harness Question
Let me preface this post by saying I'm new to the forum and new to Model A's and have been poking around the forum quite a bit. Looking for some answers to a couple of questions and/or any input foks here have. Thanks in advance for all your answers/input/advice.
1. How hard is it to replace the wiring harness in a 1930 Model A pickup? 2. How long will it take (approximately)? 3. Any special tools needed? 4. Is there a good resource (book/video) that walks you through the process? 5. Best place to get the harness? 6. Is there just one harness to order or is there one for lights and one for the engine? |

Re: Harness Question
I did my first one when I was 15 with no instructions at all. Just followed what was left of the old harness.
Check out the Sacramento Vintage Ford catalog, they make up the harnesses in their own shop and are first rate in quality and original look. |

Re: Harness Question
There is more than just the light harness. The most complicated to figure out (for me) was the t-box series. But if you get a good wiring diagram (available from many sources, probably including the place you purchase from) the color codes make setup easy. I agree that Sac. Vint. Ford has a very good harness. So does Bratton's. Buy the headlight plugs from the same company that you get the harness from.

Re: Harness Question
sconnors: You need to get some books/parts catalogs. les Andrew's vol I mechanics book is very good. Bratton;s, Mike's, Snyder's (I didn't mention Mac's because i don't like them, JMO) catalogs all have excellent illustrations and packed with other good info. There's a dash harness, tail light harness from the light sw (bottom of strg column) to tail light(s), one from gen or alt to terminal box, and front light harness. Wires at the coil. You should also install the fuse that's avail that mounts on the starter. There's also a harness for cowl lights but looking at your avitar you don't have them If I've missed any someone else will chime in, hope this helps. Some of the catalogs have a full illustration of the complete wiring harnesses.

Re: Harness Question
1. How hard is it to replace the wiring harness in a 1930 Model A pickup?>>>>EASY ?Is the body off the frame??
2. How long will it take (approximately)? 20 Minutes to 1/2 hour 3. Any special tools needed? Nothing out of the ordinary 4. Is there a good resource (book/video) that walks you through the process? ANY Wiring Diagram available thought any parts houses 5. Best place to get the harness? NO DOUBT Tyree Wires.. They best in the Business 6. Is there just one harness to order or is there one for lights and one for the engine? You will need the wire harness, the dash to Junction box, the Crossover IF you have cowl lights and the crossover IF you have dual tail lights.. That is all there is too it, good luck

Re: Harness Question
I just did my harness on my '29 CCPU, it was really easy and the only tools needed, where my choice. I am in a wheelchair and very disabled, so if I think it was easy, it was!
Took me about 30 min. I got mine from Snyder's, but I stay with one dealer for all my parts pretty much. Ken |

Re: Harness Question
On top of the page use the search , and type in wiring harness and you will see pages of wiring threads.
Read some untill you find a good color diagram that suits you . Take your camera and take you some pic's close up before you remove the old one . It should be a breeze unless you are color blind . |

Re: Harness Question
Brattons has the flat bullet ends for the headlight plugs. The rounded ends roll off the contacts, which gets pretty irritating.
