Bad Day
Lovely sunny afternoon yesterday so went to the local farm shop and bought some strawberries and headed off to see my Model A Club buddy Brian. Sitting in his back garden with strawberries and cream and heard a loud bang then a knock on the front door. Gentleman informs me he has just hit my parked cabriolet with his 3 ton tipper truck. He had been visiting his elderly mother who lives across the street a few doors down.He says he was momentarily blinded by the low sun and just did not see my car. Result is totalled left rear fender, running board and front fender.Left rear fender well rolled into the body, hood fit.both door fits and rumble lid fits all disturbed. Left rear wheel slightly buckled and bent halfshaft. He was very upset and I was spitting furious.Luckily the car was half in the roadway and half on the grass verge,If it had been fully on the road he would have hit the spare wheel full on and killed the body for sure. On the bright side the strawberries and cream were lovely !!!

Take a deep breath John that you are OK. Sorry for your Cabby. Hopefully he had insurance to help with repairs. Clem

Re: Bad Day
Ok, so I'll be the one to ask------why was the car parked halfway on the road?

Re: Bad Day
Bummer! Narrow roads? No off street parking, that 'no enter zone' needs to be enlarged to about 3 meters all the way around.
I am sorry to read this. Some no count four wheel drifted his Chevy Vega at a high rate of speed around a corner sideways into my Dune Buggy parked in front of my H.S. girl friend's house while I was knocking on her house door. I fixed it. skip. Last edited by skip; 07-11-2010 at 12:17 PM. |

Re: Bad Day
The grass verge is about 5 ft wide till it abutts against by buddy,s low front brick wall.It is not a footpath as such and is not a public right of way.It is common practise for vehicles to park half on half off which gives more room for passing traffic. The verge is part of my buddy,s property.

Re: Bad Day
To clarify he swung to his left wide out of his mothers drive and when he hit my car he was on the opposite side of the street before he could correct and get back in the left hand lane.He hit my car with his right hand drivers side.Even more reason he should have seen it .My car was heading the same way ,I had pulled over to park. Here you can legally park any way around except after dark so your red reflectors can be seen by traffic coming from behind.

Re: Bad Day
Bummer John, at least you have an Arizona blindblack to drive until you get the cabby fixed. Your sad story will appear in the next edition of "The Desert A"
Good Luck on the settlement. Frank |

Re: Bad Day
Hi Frank. Thanks for the thoughts. Rons blindback is on the stocks was putting a tighter front end under it and replaced a bad keyway rear hub.I will crack on with it now as I cannot be without "A" wheels!!!

Re: Bad Day
John,
That's terrible to hear. I wish I had some cabriolet parts in the garage to send your way like you did with those top bows for me! Add it to the long list of stories you have because of Model A's. -Tim |

Re: Bad Day
John, It's possible that many Americans don't realise how narrow some roads in the UK are.

Re: Bad Day
I once came back to my parked modern which had a new badly dented side. Under the wiper was a note " Hi I hit your car . I'm writing this note because everyone is watching Bye" No name No address No Phone number!
Sorry to hear about your damage. John |

Re: Bad Day
John--
Thank goodness you were not in the car and are ok, but still, very sad day for the cabby! I didn't see mentioned anything about insurance....since that chap did stop by, I am assuming that either he has insurance or will be paying for the damage?? Terry in sunny So. Calif. |
