Default Seat Belts for a '30 coupe

Hi,

Does anyone have an inspired thought on how to install lap seat belts in a '30 coupe? I have seen the article in the Restorer and am thinking of following that installation. http://mafca.com/downloads/Restorer/Seat%20Belts.pdf

Does anyone have a recommendation?

Thanks,
Steve

I also have a '30 coupe and have not installed the belts yet but i'm about to do so. I am going to pretty much follow the installation listed, but i probably will not use the angle iron they use. I think some metal plate will suffice and look better.

Good luck.......................

I installed retractables on my 31 coupe that I first saw on Vince Falters site.

Installation photos are on "got belts" web site

http://www.gotbelts.com/installation.../1931-model-a/

The best part about these is they don't fall out and ding the splash aprons like my other car.

Hey Steve,
'recommendation'..yes, keep it simple !
I've a '30 roadster, essentially same scheme as your coupe.
I used a very substantial angle iron (L iron) and used the two frame bolts and bolted the L iron in below the frame. The two frame holes used are in a very convenient location for this use.
Used grade 8 bolts of sufficient length and large 'seat belt' washers. One hole drilled on each side (outboard of center) and one hole centered.
Just bolt both seat belts to these..simple.
As far as comments/complaints of LOOKS. If someone goes looking under your car to complain..bootem in the arce,eh ! Those going to complain about safety items that complainer is going to have to crawl under car to see vs high point car....grow up.

Your install of retractable belts seems like a great idea. How have you atteched the center belts?

Both center belts attach to the same center bolt. Then belts fed thru / between seat/back pads. One caveat tho...I found that when I have 'rotund' type passengers..have need for loonger belts.

I also installed belts in my 30 roadster but I used a 1/4" x 6" steel plate under the rumble floor at the foot riser near the back of the front seat. Drilled 3 holes through the steel plate and the sheet metal floor. Painted body color.
