I attempted to use contact cement to install the covering on my 28 visor (same as a 29 visor). I had a problem with the contact cement soaking through in a couple of spots on the covering. Maybe I put too much on the visor, I am not sure. I plan to use 3M 77 like you mentioned when I have the fortitude to try it again. 3M 77 is a great adhesive. I used it to install the padding on the top of my 28 special coupe. I think you can spray the 77 on a piece of cardboard or wood and then paint it on the visor so you don't get overspray on the outside of the cover. I believe 3M 77 is more forgiving than contact cement as I think you can reposition it once or twice if you don't get it right the first time. You probably will waste some, but I think it should work OK.
