not "A" - Brake shoe grinder ?
I have an Ammco Brake Shoe Grinder Model 2000. The bearings are in bad shape and I need to replace them. I have it apart so I can see the bearings, but it is not obvious how the bearing package comes out. Does anyone have a manual for this grinder or a similar one (they are probably all designed the same)? Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks. Don/WI

Probably the manual would only have a parts list with picture, unless you can find a "goverment" manual ---that would have overhaul procedures most likely.
Another option is to post pictures here |

Just a quick search yielded an instruction manual for $9 online.
http://www.beautomotivemachine.com/s...ke-Shoe/Detail They appear to have all kinds of shop equipment. Might be worth a call or email to see if they have a service manual or can give you some insight on your bearing project. |

Don,
I got my copy from a guy in Canada who emailed it to me. I have an older version but I think that yours is listed in the manual. When I get home I will pull it up and send it to you. Mike

Re: not "A" - Brake shoe grinder ?
Are you talking about the bearings for the sander drum ?? I did mine a couple of years ago and replaced the lower bearing. I had to buy a metric bearing for it. It was a model 880.

Re: not "A" - Brake shoe grinder ?
Don I have a Model 2000 also. Due to the lack of cams and a proper clamp I can not use it on Model A brake shoes. I think I have an e-mailed copy of the manual I could forward to you. If you get it so you can do Model A shoes let me know the part number of the clamp and cam you used. I may ask to borrow the cam so I can duplicate it. If not I may consider selling this one as it is just taking up shop space. E-mail me at [email protected] and I will forward the copy of the manual to you tommorrow if it still exists on my computer after the crash last summer.
Thanks Rod

Re: not "A" - Brake shoe grinder ?
Hi Don,
I just checked my manual and does not have your model and it doesn't have anything about changing out the bearings. I can still send it if you want it as they probably all work the same way. Mike

Re: not "A" - Brake shoe grinder ?
Sorry it took me so long to get back to you but wanted to look at my 880 before I told you.
First I took the bolt off of the pulley under neath. If I remember correctly it waas a left hand thread ?? Removed pulley and belt Took out the six screws and the metal cover off Removed the cover from the sander drum from top Removed the blade blade Took a hammer with a punch and hit the shaft from the botttom up. I think I punched the lower bearing out from the top but am not sure Installed new lower bearing from bottom ( I remembered buying a metric bearing Put it all back together in the opposite way. Hope this helps you |
