I prefer the Best brand of composite gaskets for aluminum heads even on my blown 9CM Merc motor. Do a google search for Best gaskets.

Speaking of copper gaskets,I see that Hussey copper have stopped making them,
We use their solid ones on our dragster,I wonder where do we get them now.

Makes your engine into a bettery and the heads are the anode. Really cleans the water jackets.

If you use a good anti-corrosion product in your coolant, you won't have a problem. Also need to refresh inhibitors periodically. There is only a small amount of copper exposed to the coolant at any time. As noted though, the Best brand composite gaskets are excellent. They have gone up in price considerably. Just paid $75.00 for a set of big bore gaskets from Speedway.

If copper head gaskets are no good why do Edelbrock recommend them for their alloy heads? The installation instructions that came with mine state, 'For #1115 use Felpro #1055 (right) and #1056 (left) copper sandwich gaskets'.

Yes, copper faced gaskets are OK with any type of head material.

H&H flathead also recommend copper gaskets.i have them on my flathead with a good anti corrosion product in my coolant and have never had a problem

Dissimilar metal corrosion can be a problem but that's why they made products like Copper Coat or any good brand of silver aluminum pigment paint to coat them with before installation. The paint also acts as a sealant for the imperfections the copper won't mush down into at the heads are torqued.
