Default oil pan rear reinforcement

Fellow Model A Owners,

I am installing my oil pan and run into a problem. What holds the rear of the pan to seal against the back cork gasket. Am I missing some kind of reenforcement on the pan like on the front?. I dont remember having anything when I pulled the pan and I have looked everywhere in the garage.

No, I don't think you're missing anything. The oil-soaked cork gasket fits around the crankshaft cap, and comes up to the paper side pan gaskets. The flange at rear oil pan compresses onto the gasket. I usually use some Permatex gasket sealer to help seal everything. (The brown, sticky stuff).

I got it on and used your suggestion with gasket sealer. It was a bugger to hold and compress the oil pump spring to start the bolts. Thanks for your help!!!

Put the side gaskets on the block first, then the rear cork.Use 4-1,1/2"headless bolts to keep gasket aligned & make it easy to push pan into place to get the bolts started.
